GENERAL SERVICING QUESTIONS
How often should I get my car serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend a service every 10,000–15,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first. The exact interval depends on your make and model - your vehicle's logbook will confirm the schedule. If you're not sure, bring it in and we'll check for you.

What's the difference between a WOF and a service?
A Warrant of Fitness is a safety inspection required by law in New Zealand to confirm your vehicle meets minimum road safety standards. A service is a maintenance procedure that keeps your vehicle running properly and addresses wear and tear before it becomes a problem. The two are separate, a car can pass a WOF and still be overdue for a service.
How do I know if my car needs a service?
The most reliable way is to follow the manufacturer's service schedule in your logbook. Other signs your car may need attention include warning lights on the dashboard, unusual noises, changes in performance or fuel consumption, or if you can't remember the last time it was serviced.
Can I service my car myself?
You can carry out basic maintenance yourself, but for a full logbook service it's important that work is completed to the manufacturer's specifications and properly recorded. If you're unsure, it's always safer to use a qualified technician, especially if your vehicle is still under warranty.

Do I have to service my car at a dealer to keep my warranty?
In New Zealand, you are not legally required to use a franchised dealer to maintain your manufacturer's warranty. However, your vehicle must be serviced to the manufacturer's specifications using appropriate parts, and the service must be properly documented. Using an authorised repairer like HBM is the most reliable way to ensure all of these conditions are met without question.
What happens to my warranty if I miss a service?
Missing a scheduled service can give a manufacturer grounds to decline a warranty claim if the fault is related to the missed maintenance. It's always worth staying on schedule, and if you've fallen behind, getting up to date sooner rather than later.
What does "authorised repairer" mean?
An authorised repairer is a workshop that has been approved by a vehicle manufacturer to carry out servicing and repairs to their standards. This involves technician training, access to manufacturer diagnostic tools, and the use of genuine parts. HBM is an authorised repairer for Ford, Mazda, Kawasaki, Husqvarna, Can-Am, and Sea-Doo.
Does servicing at HBM protect my warranty even if I didn't buy the car here?
Yes. Authorised repairer status applies regardless of where you purchased the vehicle. You don't need to be an HBM customer to have your warranty protected by servicing with us.
